Can we trust the Bible?

The question "Is the Bible reliable?" can display itself in many different ways.

For example:

"Man wrote the Bible, so therefore we can't trust it!" This is a very ill thought out statement to make. Because anything in history that is written, has been written by people. So therefore, should we disregard everything written by people? Of course not. God did indeed use men to write the Bible. But He used them like we use a pencil to write a letter. It's not the pencil itself who is the author, but the one guiding it. "All scripture is given by inspiration of God.." 2 Timothy 3:16 But how do we know that the Bible is reliable?

We have put together a series of articles to help you see (if you would humbly approach the text) that the Bible is supernatural in origin.

Need more reasons to trust the Bible? Here are some more reasons:

  1. Historical Accuracy Archaeological discoveries consistently align with biblical accounts, confirming events, places, and cultural details described in the text. For example, discoveries like the Dead Sea Scrolls and inscriptions referencing biblical figures affirm its historical authenticity. Note: this does not mean every event in Biblical history has achaeological evidence, but more and more keep turning up that does support events!

  2. Manuscript Evidence The Bible has unparalleled manuscript support, with thousands of ancient copies available (you can visit these in museums in many different places). The New Testament alone has thousands of Greek manuscripts, far surpassing any other ancient text. The consistency among these manuscripts underscores its textual reliability.

  3. Scientific Consistency While not a science textbook, the Bible includes statements about the natural world that align with modern scientific understanding, such as the earth being round (Isaiah 40:22) or the water cycle (Ecclesiastes 1:7).

  4. Transformative Power The Bible has profoundly impacted millions of lives, cultures, and societies over centuries. Its teachings have inspired movements of justice, charity, and personal transformation, reflecting its enduring relevance and reliability.

Each of these points contributes to the case for the Bible as a trustworthy and reliable text. What do you think? Do you find the Bible is reliable? Comment below!
